What sets Gateway Academy apart from other
programs?
Several factors set Gateway apart from other programs. First, all
aspects of Gateway life reflect the care, compassion and respect we
have for our students
as individuals –
From our beautiful and comfortable home settings to the comprehensive
clinical, medical and educational services we provide. Second, Gateway’s
treatment approach provides more comprehensive and state-of-the-art
interventions. Our individualized treatment approach is grounded in
the fundamental principles of adolescent development augmented with
a wide spectrum of specialty, research-tested, techniques. In this
regard, the treatment at Gateway encompasses much more than what is
offered by many traditional programs of this type. Third, Gateway’s
owners are experienced clinicians involved in the daily programming
and therapy of every youth. We do not just provide oversight. We participate
and ensure the continued quality and excellence of the services we
provide. Fourth, the education and qualifications of our staff exceeds
what is typical in the industry. Gateway promotes and supports ongoing
training, specialization and certification of all our staff. Finally,
and perhaps most importantly, Gateway’s most powerful asset
lies in the heart of the people who work with your son, for we are
personally invested in your son’s healing and success.
How often will I have contact with my son?
Families play a vital role in Gateway’s treatment process. Parental
and family contact and involvement is crucial to each young man’s
healing and growth at
Gateway.
Beginning the first week of your son’s stay you will have weekly
family therapy sessions with your son and his therapist by phone.
Your son will also have weekly social phone calls with you after the
first two weeks of his stay at Gateway. Gateway also encourages unlimited
letter writing, and incoming, faxing/e-mailing of letters. Additionally,
Gateway has Parent Weekend every three months, where parents attend
a four day therapeutic experience along with their son and other parents.
How long will my son stay at Gateway?
Gateway Academy has a flexible length of stay, based on your son’s
and family’s progress in treatment. Your son’s therapist
and the Gateway clinical team, together with you as parents, determine
when your son has progressed to point he is prepared for the next
step in his life. Overall, the average length of stay is between seven
to nine months.
What is the school like at Gateway and is it
accredited?
Gateway's academic program is accredited through the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and the State of Utah. Class sizes are small with a 6-8 kids in a class.
How do school credits transfer?
Gateway Academy is accredited through Northwest Association of Schools and thus, can accept all accredited school credits (Including credits earned out of the county). Gateway Academy routinely sends out transcripts all over the nation. Utah is on the quarter system so there is a little difference in how Gateway issues credits. However, there is a minor adjustment to assimilate semester and or year credits into our system. Additionally, Gateway Academy can transfer credits earned at Gateway to work within the framework of a semester system when youth transition back home.
When a youth is being admitted to Gateway from a wilderness program it is very helpful to get the youth's wilderness program's "credit letter" upon intake. Most of the wilderness programs send a letter that states what credits they earned while in wilderness. It helps to get a copy of it when the youth first arrives at Gateway to expedite transfer of credits to Gateway.
